Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate horror films: Get comfortable with your partner and stream Together. This 2025 indie hit recently had its streaming debut via Hulu. On the surface, it might appear like typical physical horror, but inside Together lies a deep examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Exploring Partnership Complexities

Together marks the debut feature-length film for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have stayed together for a decade. Married in real life in 2017, the two stars contribute a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The plot begins when the couple relocate from the urban environment to the rural area for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical story element, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes exceeding simple connection.

The complete narrative is a methodically building fright fest, weaving in bits of dreamlike terrors, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny dialogue (sometimes during something disturbing). Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and presents them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a lack of intimacy. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his hesitance to chase only his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Conversely, Tim experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve moved to the country and far away from his network of friends. He is terrified of the notion of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he does not operate a vehicle and is dependent on Millie for mobility.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie confront the sort of issues that arise in long-term unions after ten years. Deep down, they have affection for each other. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory never feels hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments present a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama work together symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. Conversely, a few pairs experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own response could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you recognize your own traits in either protagonist and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can undertake right now.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform now.
